30 years and counting...

Wishing my gorgeous parents a very happy 30th Wedding Anniversary - Yep, they were married on Halloween in 1981. They danced to Monster Mash at their wedding, and I think that's fabulous! I can only hope that one day our marriage is as strong as theirs!

[I just realised I don't have a wedding photo for my parents on my computer yet! Must address this!]

Love you Mum and Dad! -xox-

friday first dance finds #2

This week's Friday First Dance Find is a little more common then last week's - a beautiful cover of "Make You Feel My Love", performed by Adele. I have to admit, I hadn't seen the film clip for this song until I YouTubed it for this post - it's slightly depressing!

But the song is gorgeous, I heard it a long time before Adele became the name on everyone's lips (although I'm still trying to work out where...my guess is a movie or TV soundtrack that I own but I have no idea which one!) and it really is a lovely song. I realise that part of it is about someone not making their mind up about a relationship, but the rest of the lyrics are so fitting - about being there for your partner when nothing else seems to be. I love it!

Lyrics are included below. Enjoy!

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no - one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
Though winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
There is nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love, To make you feel my love

a little something blue...

The future hubby's sister is getting married this Saturday! The wedding has crept up so fast it's hard to believe it's really this Saturday! So today, my RDO from work, I spent the day making up a little something blue for my sister-in-law to be. I'm quite happy with the result...it's a little handkerchief to capture her wedding kiss!

Tomorrow I plan to pick up a sixpence for her shoe and a few other little bits and pieces, to make up a little good luck package to give to her the morning of the wedding. I hope she likes it!

For anyone who wonders what it say, the poem is the following:

As you're standing hand in hand and you've said all your "I do's",
A kiss he'll place upon your lips to celebrate this news.

Take this handkerchief you've used to dry your tears of joy,
And gently wipe it from his lips with grace and love and poise.

Later, when the day is done tuck it neatly away…
So you'll always have that special kiss from your wedding day.

friday first dance finds!

I've decided to start a new weekly post! Given that much of my wedding related activity lately is more research then creation, I wanted to find a way to record this on the blog. The future hubby and I have just begun discussing options for our first dance music (as my processional choice has been decided for years!) but I've been compiling music for a few months now.

Given that the word of the day when it comes to our wedding is trying to be "different" and all of the songs that are related to moments in our relationship are anything but, we are forgoing the idea of "our song" as our first dance and looking for a specific first dance song. During the search I've found some amazing music that isn't quite right for our first dance, but definitely might be for someone else out there! And since here in BlogWorld we just love to share, that's what I've decided to do :)

Now that's not to say that some familiar and probably very popular songs might not work there way on (come on, I can't resist putting Train's "Marry Me" on here at some point!) but I hope that you might find some refreshing options to the overused ones you might find on other corners of the Internet. And since we haven't chosen our song yet, ours might be hiding in the bunch!

I would love to hear your feedback on this - the good, the bad, the ugly - and whether it's something you'd like to see!!

Without further ado, the first Friday First Dance find - "Shattered" by Remy Zero

This song captivated me the moment I heard it on the Smallville soundtrack. The future hubby and I were both Smallville fans when we started dating, and he gave me a copy of the soundtrack. The future hubby loves his comics, and Superman is by far his fav. The fact he's secretly Superman (shhh don't tell anyone) has been an ongoing joke for years, and my family (and extended family!) have always loved finding random Superman finds for him!

(I'm also working on trying to get him to do an awesome photo op like this at the wedding!)

The music is beautiful and the lyrics hint at the amazing power someone can have with just a look - I certainly remember the first one the future hubby and I shared when we met!

The lyrics are included below for you, I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do! Xx

Grace in light
Somehow I found you here
Torn from the hope and fear
Holds us inside

Pull me out
Out from the world I've known
And all love was broken cold
Brought me here

From you one look
Just one look and everything is shattered
From you one word
Towers burn and fall, fall, fall

Just be still
Arms just surround like the sun
Facing the life we've begun
It holds us inside

From you one look
Just one look and everything is shattered
From you one word
Towers burn and fall, fall, fall

From you one look
Just one look and everything is shattered
From you one word
Towers burn and fall and fall

Fires curl
Shadows surge
A hollow sound that no one else can hear
But me in silent streams
Forever more we dream

mail delivery!

A pleasant surprise arrived in my mail box yesterday...

My shoe stickers!!

Yay! I love them. They now go into my wedding box, waiting to be pulled out next year :) Can't wait to see them in use!

In other exciting news, my parents made a trip to Ikea this weekend, and while they were there they picked up these little beauties at my request - the frames we're going to be using for our table numbers!

[source]

At $2 a pop, these double sided frames are great value for money - we plan to use them afterwards with pics in our home, and also with some wedding pics for gifts (e.g. for our parents and grandparents). I can't wait to start designing the table numbers to go inside, along with all our other stationary...although I have to admit, I am leaning very much towards these GORGEOUS table numbers from dearemma in "pearl" and "lavender" (check out all the gorgeous colours they are available in here):

I honestly don't know where we are going to keep all our wedding stuff, now that we are in a single room at my parents' place! I swear, they are going to end up sick of us by the time we move out! How did you guys go about storing all of your wedding items before your big day?

Wow!

I'm so excited, for the first time in my adult life I won something! Something I'm quite excited about, because I had planned to purchase these for my wedding day...

Thanks to Shardi at The Blushing Bride and Your Happily Ever After, I won these awesome shoe stickers for my wedding day!

I've been planning to get a set of these since the first time I saw them floating around in Wedding Blog Land, and now I'm lucky enough to have won my own pretty pair!

I've had various items from Your Happily Ever After saved in my Etsy favourites for some time, including this Groom's kit that I'd like to get the future hubby - possibly with some purple stones in the cufflinks?

If you are planning a wedding and haven't yet had a peek at Your Happily Ever After, definitely do so! Some great stuff! I'd also highly recommend Shardi's The Blushing Bride as your newest addition to your blog - great reading, beautiful inspiration boards!

Typo buys...

I've previously posted about my love of Typo. It's such a great store. I was in there the other day and purchased these great little blackboards to hang from our chairs at our reception...

They also had blackboards in the shape of hearts and birds. Personally I like the clean lines of the framed board and we're more likely to use them afterwards then if I chose the hearts.

Here's my inspiration picture for the design. No idea whether I'll be able to make it as pretty... Maybe it's a job for my MoH. Gosh it's good having an art teacher MoH!!

I also got this bunting to use in my new study, when we are finally in our own place... Seems so long away but we'll get there! It's got some cute patterns.

While in there, snooping around, I found so cute little buys that could be used in weddings! As well as the block letters (as seen on our engagement party table, easy to paint to match any decor and form any word!) and love heart board that they sell (also seen at our engagement party!) I found these cute little signs, perfect for a shabby chic style wedding!

First up, the faux embroidery:

Then some cute little reusable vintage mismatched plate decals:

Inspiration perhaps?:

I even found a cute little vintage style DIY wedding book! (but with all the wonders on the net I didn't feel justified buying it)

That's not even to mention the various stamps and inks you could use for various projects (anyone for vintage postage stamps for a letter themed Save The Date?) I love Typo. Just keeps getting better. Plenty of birds in there at the moment, and shabby chic, "Bambi" style goodness. Definitely check them out if you have one near, or online! Any photo frames we need for the wedding will be purchased from there (exhibited at our engagement party again!) and reused in our new home :)

In other buying news, I bought a pretty new spring nail polish...

...it wasn't until I got home that I realized the name...

...buying wedding related things even when I'm not trying!

We also now all settled into my parents place, with the official handover of our keys yesterday. I thought I would be a little more sad to see our first home all packed up and stored away, but I'm surprised to find that it doesn't really bother me. Being back home is fun, we get to see my siblings more and my gorgeous little nephew and my parents have been great. Plus, the idea that next year we can buy our own place sorta outweighs any inconvenience now...I can't wait! Did any of you guys head back home before purchasing your first home? How did you find it?

PS. I just noticed that my 1 year post from the 29th was ALSO my 100 blog post! What a fitting post to happen on that day :)
