garters

I've been looking at beautiful garters for a while, and the time is getting closer to when I should pick one and order it. As usual, the wonderful etsy (and similar sites such as madeit and wedzu) have wonderful selections of handmade pieces.

I've pretty much decided that I'd like my garter to have that lovely feeling of old world charm, and that I'd like a set that has a tossing garter so that I can keep my garter to hand down to one of my children, one day (hopefully!). Although, we do have this little beauty that the future hubby caught at Groomsmen Mark's wedding (remember him, Kylie and their upcoming triplets from the Groomsmen and Babies post?) in the October before we got engaged.

I'm tempted to use this garter as our toss garter - pass on the luck to another couple!

I've also decided that I think I'll end up with a blue garter, to use as my "Something Blue". A little pop of blue as my garter seems like a lot of fun, even if only I know it's there for the most part! These are a few of the garters I've had saved in my etsy favourites for a while...any of them tickle your fancy? What style garter will you be wearing/did you wear for your Big Day? Did you/will use it as your "Something Blue"?

  1. ah - So beautiful! I love them all! I'm not sure if I'll use my garter as the something blue, but the ones that you have chosen definitely makes me consider using it as my blue!

  2. I just had my garters delivered. Got them from Simply Kate Grace via Etsy {your last photo is her work} and I LOVE them! Great service and the garters are even more gorgeous in person!

  3. I like the bottom two... if your dress is white, I'd go with the second to last... if it's not white, I'd go with the bottom one.

I made a garter that was really for my husband... we didn't do bouquet or garter toss... and I put a Texas Longhorn pin and a Kansas Jayhawk pin (our schools). When the ceremony was over, he got to see what I'd made and I'll eventually put it in a shadow box.

My something blue was this huge blue brooch that was my Grandma's... it was also her memorial... we put on our programs what our memorial pieces were and who they represented... I had pins on my bouquet for my Grandma and 2 Grandpa's and my husband wore his dad's wedding band on his right hand.

    1. Lexi, I love that you made a personal garter for yourself and your husband - that is so awesome and a great keepsake from your wedding! Your memorial pieces sound just lovely as well, I think it's wonderful to remember and represent those important in your life. We've got a few ways to incorporate family in our wedding and I'll be blogging about those soon!
