::4 months::

FOUR MONTHS
26/12/2013 - 26/01/2014

Weight: 5.2 kgs (clothed) & 62 cm long

Clothing Size: Slowly but surely crossing over into the 000 camp, all of your singlet jumpsuits in 0000 have been passed on to Aunty Dee for baby Kendall, but your sleeved onsies in 0000/NB still managed to fit...for the moment. You are definitely in 000 for any long sleeved jumpsuits now!

New Milestones/Firsts: First roll from back to belly on 03/01/2014! Realised you can splash in the big bath on 05/01/2014. First swimming lesson and time in the pool on 16/01/2014 and you went to the public pools for the first time the next day. You really started flipping from back and belly together repeatedly on 17/01/2014.

Loves: Violet the Dog, Lulu Ladybug and Olivia the Owl. Standing on our legs and "dancing", "jumping" and stamping your little feet! "Big" baths with Mama where you can splash and float around. Your new Sophie the Giraffe!!

Milestones I think she is close to: Sitting up! Getting first teeth...

Sleeping: The month started off very, very rough and Mama and Daddy were close to tearing their hair out - mucked up night sleep, struggles to get you to sleep during the day...it was tough! You fight sleep so much during the day (although when you are down for the count, you sleep like a champ for an hour and a half - 2 hours) and at night your wind pain seems to be waking you up. Mama and Daddy purchased a little iPod dock CD player to play white noise and lullabies through (check out Rockabye Baby Albums...they are awesome!) in an attempt to help you snooze. Unfortunately, the upset sleeping pattern continued through most of the month and your needles on the 23/01/2014 didn't help! That night was filled with lost of crying and not much sleep for anyone. Mama has made the decision to have a nursing/sleeping vacation with you for the whole next week, in an attempt to get you used to settling yourself and getting enough sleep during the day! Let's hope it works! As I write this, you are asleep in your cot after falling asleep without being picked up for the first time in months...and as you drifted off "You and Me" came on the CD player

Favorite activity/toy: Definitely your new Sophie the Giraffe. She's been a Godsend, not only for your sore gums, but as something you will finally squeeze while nursing, to stop you pulling and scratching at Mama! You took to her straight away.

Best part about being a mum: You started giving Mama kisses on Australia Day - grabbing Mama's face and smothering her in slobber. Best. Thing. Ever.

This month we: Went to your 3rd cousin's Baptism (Mama's cousin's little girl), had your first swimming lesson/time in the pool, saw our midwife at Aunty Dee/Kendall's appointment, had your 4 month needles, celebrated your first Australia Day!

I've decided to stop monthly updates in this format and start with an open letter to my baby girl instead, so look for that next month! Thanks for reading!

::3 months old::

Dear Livie,

Please slow down. Please, please. You are so eager to jump ahead to every milestone, and you want so badly to just take off running that I feel like I barely have any time with my little newborn daughter. From the word go, you have always been so alert and ready to see the world and dive on in - it's wonderful but it makes me so sad to see you growing so fast. I feel that you will be such an independent little girl, whose Mama will always be mourning your lack of reliance on her. So when you do need me - those precious snuggles into a familiar body in an unfamiliar place, those 4am feeds, those chest to chest moments when only Mama's skin will calm you...those moments I treasure. For I fear you will need less and less of them, far too soon.

Try not to dive ahead too fast my baby girl. I will miss my baby too soon.

Love, Mama xxx

THREE MONTHS
26/11/2013 - 26/12/2013

Weight: 4.82 kgs (clothed, 12/12) & 59 cm long (19/12)

Clothing Size: You went up a nappy size on the 30/11 and are now in infant nappies instead of newborn - a proud but sad moment! You looked so teeny in them though, it was like you were a newborn again, for a moment.

We put you in a smaller sized 000 (0-3 months) for the first time on 03.12.2013.

New Milestones/Firsts: First time at a Baby Shower (for your cousin Kendall!), first giggle! (05.12.2013), first wedding and party dress, first Christmas, and first time meeting many extended family members, including your first time meeting your Great-Grandparents and many of your Great Aunts and Uncles, at both family Christmas parties. You also started grasping at your toys (if we give them to you!) and pulling your dummy in and out of your mouth.

Loves: Your new Lullaby Bug that you got for Christmas from Great-Aunty Barbara, your butterfly play mat that Mama bought, nappy-free time!, Daddy blowing raspberries under your arm and taking selfies with Daddy's phone! (we did this in front of our Christmas Tree on Christmas Day and it made you giggle so much!!)

Milestones I think she is close to: Sounds strange to say but....crawling! You have already got the legs going, tucked up underneath your hips and moving you forward, you just can't quite get your arms working so instead you grab onto the mat and pull yourself forward while pushing with your legs (or if this doesn't work, just lunging your chest forward)! I keep telling you to stop, I need my little baby for a little while longer!!

You are also so close to roll on your belly from your back. I watched you trying so hard in your crib the other day and managed to video tape it - you were so very, very close!

Sleeping: On the 29/11 we took you back to the doctors as your reflux was playing up again - around week 8 you stopped feeding well again, you were fussing terribly and started crying during feds again, and your night time sleeps got messed up. We think you were having a growth spurt as well. We started you on Losec, a very low dose, as well as the thickener...suddenly you were sleeping amazing! You slept 8 - 10 hours at night, waking for a feed then sleeping again until 7 or 8 (another 3 or 4 hours). You also started sleeping during the day, and letting Mama know when you want to nap. I didn't know what to do with myself when you are asleep, I wasn't used to having a sleeping baby during the day!

Then, after about 4 days, we were back to our old routine (10 weeks old). No day sleeps and your night sleep even got messed up! By 11/12 your night sleeps were back to fairly normal again, although after your 6 hr stint you were suddenly eating every 2.5 hours, instead of 3 or 4 - Mama and Daddy put it down to either the heat, or a growth spurt!

The rest of the month things went downhill. Your sleeping at night time started to muck up as well as your daytime sleeps and on Christmas Eve you had the growth spurt to end all growth spurts - feeding hourly and draining your poor Mumma! Your feeding has settled down but we are still trying to get you back into your sleep routine. Some nights it works, some nights you wake up and take hours to go back to sleep. During the day, sometimes after a fight you go down and sleep for 2 hours, other days you continually keep waking up. It's all a guessing game at the moment! We think you may be teething...and your poor windy belly keeps waking you as well.

Favorite activity/toy: You love your "Violet" dog from Santa, your Jemima doll from Mama and Daddy and your "Lulu Ladybug" doll from Nanny and Poppy.

Best part about being a mum: Your grins when you first wake up from a really good sleep. Such a beautiful smile my Livie-bug!

This month we: Had a hard time with feeding again thanks to your reflux, and you really hurt Mama. We had a Lactation Consultant come out to the house to try and help... We eventually got it sorted (it seems to be more your reflux then anything else!) and you were back to feeding beautifully again. Let's hope this sticks!

Sadly, this month we also said goodbye to your Great-Poppy, Mummy's paternal grandfather. It was your first big road trip and you were beautiful, sleeping in both directions (although not once during the day!). Although it was an incredibly sad day, you bought a smile to everyone's face and all Mama's family who hadn't met you yet were thrilled to have snuggles and smiles. Your presence really helped everyone heal a little, and your Great-Nanny loves you to pieces and would have kept you if she could! I know that my Poppy would have loved you so much, his first great-granddaughter. He and Nan had been waiting for the day they had a new little girl to snuggle (as much as they love all their boys)...you would have made him laugh that unique little laugh of his and he would have teased you mercilessly, as he did all us girls. xxx

On a happier note, this month we celebrated Christmas with all our families and while it didn't quite *feel* like Christmas, thanks to the crazy blur of days that is our life lately, we were so thrilled to celebrate your first Christmas with you! Your 3 month mark fell on Boxing Day and so your monthly photos are Christmas themed this time!

baby Olivia's birth story - Part Two!

Catch up on Part One here -

...not long after my Mum arrived we made the decision to head to the hospital because the pain had gotten so bad I felt I wouldn't be able to get in a car if we left it too much longer!

So, we did one last trek around the house, trying to think of anything we had missed that we would need, locked up and headed to hospital...

After arriving at the hospital (and oh boy, getting out of our suburb was interesting while in labour....full of twists, turns and roundabouts!) the hubs dropped my Mum and I at the front, parked the car and then joined us, and we made the slow trek to the birthing suite. Upon arrival, we were informed that the caseload midwife working that day was in prep with another client, as she was getting ready to have an emergency caesarean. So we waited for a monitoring room to be ready for us (all the while my pain level was getting worse!) and I was hooked up to a monitor for baby's heart rate to be monitored.

I was so excited to have yellow straps...
everything for Little Bean was yellow!

It felt like we were in that room forever! All I wanted to do was get in the hot shower and it felt like I was waiting for an eternity...meanwhile, the pain in my hips was getting worse and worse with every contraction. I eventually got off the bed and tried sitting on a chair beside the bed, leaning onto my husband or the bed...until *finally* they let me get into the shower in the room - only to discover the water in the shower was inconsistent, going from nice and hot to cool! Talk about irritating! All I wanted was hot, hot, hot! I had used a heat pack all the way to the hospital, and I remember getting one of the massive gel ones while I was waiting for the shower - it just didn't do the trick!

I tried to work through the pain in the shower for as long as I could, but it just kept building to the point I felt I couldn't handle it - and it didn't feel right. Having been in the labour room with my sister, when she gave birth to my nephew, I had a fair idea what to expect (my poor sister was in labour for 3 days!) and I have a fairly high pain tolerance. However, the pain I was getting during contractions was all in my hips - it honestly felt like my hips were going to crack! I started mentioning to my husband that I didn't think I was going to be able to do it without some assistance...

After a while, we were moved to a birthing suite - number 5! By this stage, I was pretty much set on getting an epidural. Anyone who knows me knows how much of a big deal that is, and I think the decision to get the epidural was harder than actually getting the epidural! However, the midwife who was watching us had set up the bath for me to try first, and encouraged me to use some gas. The gas I HATED, and after one contraction I told them to get it away from me - it made me feel dizzy, nauseous and out of control...not something this a-type lady wanted! The bath just didn't help at all...I feel like if I had gotten in it sooner, when I was managing the pain a little better, I might have held out a little longer.

After the gas attempt, I got out of the bath to get a cannula in preparation for the epidural. The guy was lovely, particularly when I gave him a heads up about my phobia of all things medical, in particular needles. I think the cannula was worse than the epidural! The epidural was so scary for me, I have always been scared of getting one so I was terrified. Luckily the anesthesiologist we had was lovely, and listened to my fears and helped me through it (I advised her that unlike most patients, I did *NOT* want to know what she was doing, for her to just do it). This was where our Calm Birth preparation really helped me - I focused on my breathing to really keep myself calm and still as I was terrified of moving while they put in the needles. I remember the anesthesiologist asking at one point if I was having a contraction because I was so focused on breathing - I wasn't!

After the epidural, everything suddenly became peaceful and I knew I had made the right decision. I had been in natural labour for approx. 6 hours at that point (I believe I got the epidural around 12.00?), and suddenly I felt like I could actually enjoy the process of giving birth to my baby. I remember passing my sister in the hallway on the way between the monitoring room and the birth suite (she had been adamant that even if I couldn't have her in the room, she was waiting in that hallway until I gave birth) and I couldn't handle the thought of anyone else in the room, no matter how much I wanted to give her the experience she gave me. However, after I had the epidural, I had my Mum go and get her, and she spent the rest of the time in the room with us. It was so nice to be able to do that...I am still a strong advocate for natural birth, and I will try again next time, but having the epidural was the right decision for me that night - as it turns out, it was a good thing I got it...

To be continued...

:: 2 months old ::

Dear Livie,

I can't believe you are 2 months old already! The time is flying by and I am just not ready for it. You are already trying to do so many things, and I wish you would stay my teeny, squishy baby for longer. In saying that, I'm so proud of how clever you are and how much you are taking in the world around you and wanting to learn new things!

The best thing about my day is your milk drunk snuggles in the middle of the night and your bright, happy smiles every time you wake up. As sad as it is to see the teeny little Livie disappearing, the new personality that shines through every week makes me excited to watch you grow.

Just please don't grow too fast.

I love you my baby girl.

Love, Mama xxx

TWO MONTHS
26/10/2013 - 26/11/2013

Weight: 4.86kgs (clothed) - a whole kilo more than last month! - & 55cm long

Clothing Size:0000/Newborn BUT you are completely out of any footed 0000/Newborn because of your length. Not too much longer and I think you'll be in 000!

New Milestones/Firsts: First Halloween!, first Christening (for your cousin Kimberly!), first birthday party and lolly bag, first Christmas party (Poppy's family party!), first purposeful rolls from belly to back and first accidental roll from back to belly! You had your first trip to the Plaza at 7 weeks old to purchae Mia's birthday present. You also started "talking" - ie. making purposeful sounds in response to our conversation with you!

Loves: Still in love with your Daddy but Mama seems to be getting a bit more love these days :) You also love your "Minnie Mouse" rattle my aunt bought you, your singing Lion, "Gemima" doll from Playschool (Nanny bought you a Playschool Nursery Rhyme book and every time she is on the page you grin at her and go quiet!), your bedtime routine (oh my, she lets us know when she is ready for her bath, massage, feed and bed!) and foot massages (this one is Daddy's job :) ) and you have recently started loving to play "peek-a-boo!"

Milestones I think she is close to: Real laughs/giggles - you already do this in your sleep, but you have recently started to make the connection when something fun is done repeatedly to you (eg. tickling your belly) - you will smile before the next time happens and I think the next step will be a giggle! You are also trying so hard all the time to pull yourself up to sit up!

Sleeping: Still all over the shop during the day, though slightly better than it was, since we started using some Infacol to help your poor belly. Night time is still really good, you have generally been going to sleep from about 7 or 8 til between 12 and 2, then waking 3 hourly after that. Last month I mentioned you had a day of 2 hourly feeds...as it turns out, you have silent reflux. Our doctor got suspicious of it when we took you in at approx. 4 1/2 weeks for the sniffles and a cough, when she couldn't find any infection, etc. She advised that it can been signs of silent reflux and sure enough, that weekend your coughs turned into coughing up something and swallowing it, then you started screaming and arching your back while feeding. Your 2 hour feeds had been an attempt to soothe your sore throat! 5 weeks old was the worst week and unfortunately coincided with your tongue snip. We started you on thickener during the day and your sleeping and feeding got better!

Favorite activity/toy: Still love Minnie, but also a fan of your singing Lion. You also still really love tummy time, despite being a reflux baby! You definitely love your baths and massages very night as well

Best part about being a mum: Late night, milk drunk snuggles and your beautiful grins!

This month we: Had a lot of adventures! Lots of parties and celebrations. We also had our 6 week check ups, and you had your needles. You did so well with those! You cried while they were being given to you, then afterwards only cried for a minute in Mama's arms before starting to have a very cranky conversation with Mama, Daddy, and the nurses! They thought it was so funny, you sounded like you were telling us all off and would be wagging your finger at us if you could! The nurses loved you and couldn't stop going on about how gorgeous you were :) Made Mama proud.

You also had your tongue tie snipped at 5 weeks - again, you did beautifully and only cried for a few minutes. I think it was harder on Mama and Daddy, watching them do something like that to you! But we knew it was something you needed. You were grinning at the doctor and nurses beforehand and barely cried afterwards. After 5 weeks of feeding difficulties and Mama fighting to get someone to believe something was wrong, the first time you latched on afterwards was such a relief! We still had a rough time for about a week and a half while you relearned how to use your tongue, but then we had a week and a half where you suddenly "got it", and did amazing!!

We also started going to the "Meet and Greet" at the Community Health Centre, to meet up with other mums and bubs! It's been a lot of fun so far, and our friends Kate and Imogen, and Kate and Peyton, are all going as well! The 5 week course looks like it is going to be lots of fun.

Another month over...and I still haven't finished Livie's birth story! I do promise it's coming but you know the saying - babies don't keep. Blogging can sometimes wait. I'll be around more soon, but I promise I'm keeping up with everyone's blogs (even if I don't get a chance to comment!)

:: 1 month old ::

Well, it's a little late, since Miss Olivia was 1 month old on the 26/10/2013 but golly! Is it ever hard to get a chance to blog when you have a little newborn refusing day naps...*more on that later*

I personally love reading baby monthly updates on all my favourite blogs, so I hope you will all indulge me with Olivia's! I also love the chance to write everything down and print it out for her Project Life - it takes a little longer to get into there, so this way I have all her milestones written down somewhere to access later.

I can't believe that my little munchkin is already over a month old...people aren't kidding when they say time flies! She's already changed so much...and my, oh my, what a first month we had. Without further ado, Livie's first month!

ONE MONTH
26/09/2013 - 26/10/2013

Weight: 3.86kgs (clothed) 3.78kgs (bare weight)

Clothing Size:0000/Newborn although some are still a little big!

New Milestones/Firsts: First car ride, first doctor appointment with Dr. Khan on 04/10/13, first trip down to the local grocery store, first photoshoot (and first shoot with our wedding photographer! More on that later!), first trip to the Plaza (7 weeks), first real smiles (oh they are so much better than wind smiles!!) and first roll from belly to back (and she's already trying her darndest to roll from back to belly! Stay little for a while baby girl!) She had her first time to a house other than our own - we made a quick stop at my parents' house for my Mum's family reunion! We also thought she had her first cold BUT turns out it was reflux... :( ...There are probably a million other "firsts" given her new to the world status, but they are the big ones I can think of!

Loves: Her Daddy. Oh my is this little girl a Daddy's girl! Not only is she the spitting image of him as a baby (I think she has my eyes...that's about it so far!), but all he has to do is talk and she would stop and listen. She could stare at him for hours. I'm just the food, clearly!
She also loves her Nanny's voice (my mum) and I think that's because my Mum stayed with us for the first 5 days out of hospital, to help out, so it's one that Livie recognises. It's so sweet to see her smile when she hears her Nanny!
Other loves include the "BABY" frame beside her change table - it currently has generic pictures of babies and grandparents in it, and I swear she thinks they are her friends! She smiles at them and coos a bit at them...she's going to be disappointed when I put pictures of her in there I think! She also loves to stare at the banner and hot air balloons on her wall, and if she is facing the other way she is captivated by the mobile I made! Score! (DIY to come on that one!)
Baby girl also loves cuddles, of course, the abstract canvas art in the living room, and she has also taking to loving to stay awake during the day...something we decidedly *don't* love. However she loves her sleep at night so that's fine by us!

Milestones I think she is close to: "Talking" (ie. cooing, making noises) purposefully.

Sleeping:Olivia was a fantastic sleeper for the first two or so weeks...then her poor little belly started playing up. She's a great sleeper at night, she started sleeping from 5 - 6 hours from 7pm quite early on, then would wake at 4am and sleep again until her wake time at 7am. She then feeds every 3 hours during the day....but the sleeping during the day? Was not happening unless she was on our chests. She also went through a period of 2 hour feeds, which I think is when her sleeping started to get messed up. It wasn't too bad then but week 5 was terrible! But more on that in next month's update!

Favorite activity/toy: She loves the Minnie Mouse rattle my aunt bought for her, and she's a fan of her vibrating rocker. But mostly she loves face to face time with her Mama and Daddy, and tummy time on the playmat with Daddy (Mama couldn't do this for ages thanks to Livie's birth)

Best part about being a mom:The smiles at 3am. There is nothing better than your baby looking deep into your eyes, and giving you a great big, beautiful grin! It makes everything else worth it :)

This month we: had a really rough time! Recovering from Olivia's birth was hard enough (Part Two of her story coming soon!) but on top of that we had latching problems, blocked ducts, excessively sore nipples, bacterial infections, mastitis, tongue tie, gas problems and reflux. *phew* We had it tough. Really tough. But thankfully month two is looking better...And this month was all about us getting to know our little girl, and getting to know ourselves as parents. So in spite of it all, all the pain and the problems, it's been amazing. And I'm more in love with my husband then ever before. He has shown himself to be an amazing, hands on Daddy and I love the relationship he has with our daughter already <3

That's it for this month! Stay tuned for Part Two of Olivia's birth story (you can read Part One here) and, if the little miss gives me time, a DIY for your baby's nursery!

baby Olivia's birth story - Part One!

Wow. It's been a while since I wanted to sit and write this post but we're still settling into our new way of life over here and writing a blog post tends to be a little further down the "what to do while baby is sleeping" list and generally doesn't get reached! But at the moment I have a sleeping babe on my chest (the only time she has managed to fall asleep today thanks to some horrible wind!) and I thought I'd take the time to get started on our story...

As I've mentioned previously, we had some concerns that little miss was going to make her entrance quite early - at 36 weeks we had some contractions and the hospital advised me to finish up work as she was ready to come at any time (of course, we didn't know she was a "she" then!)

While lots of rest and couch time prevented her from coming that early, we did experience a lot of pre-labour work in the following weeks and it's here our story starts. On the Friday prior to Livie's birthday, I actually had consistent, working contractions from the early hours of the morning until about 5 pm - we were convinced we were going to meet our little bean that day! I was feeling really good about how everything was going and dealing with the pain well, but then all at once, I got this complete wave of exhaustion and need to lie down...and I listened to my body. Sadly, everything pretty much stopped at that point and we came to the realization that it was just more intense pre-labour work and it wasn't going to progress further.

40 weeks according to our scans - 2 days after our false start & 3 days before labour started
On the day labour actually started (Wednesday, 25th of September), we had a check up with our midwife at 8am, then my mum (who had stayed at our place for a few nights after the Friday false start...she couldn't help herself, she felt she was going to miss out if she went home! Hehe) and I went shopping in the morning for a few hours. It had been a while since I had been out and about for that amount of time and it was nice to go shopping for a while! However, it meant that later that evening, when the hubs and I decided to go grocery shopping and I started to feel a bit achy and have a bit of pressure, I just put it down to my unusual amount of standing/walking that day...and soldiered on! (I remember getting out of the car and saying to the hubs - "I might be a bit slow tonight because I'm a bit sore, so please be patient" :) )

As we went about our shopping (around 6pm), it became apparent that the pain I was getting was coming every ten minutes or so...and was getting to a point where I would physically have to stop walking and wait for it to pass. I had been reluctant to say anything to the hubs, since we had had so many days of pain that led to nothing, but at that point I turned to him and said, "Hmmm, maybe we should hurry this up a little..." He suggested just leaving then and there, but I convinced him that we should finish - we were expecting family over for dinner that night and if it turned out to be nothing, we needed to have food ready!

By the time we got home (the shopping centre is literally a 2 min car ride from our house!) the pain was coming every 5 mins and I had told the hubs that I thought he should call his sister and dad and tell them not to come. By the time we (and by that I mean he!) unpacked the car, the pain was 3 mins apart. It escalated pretty quickly and I rang my mum (who had decided to spend the night at home that night... of course!) to let her know that I thought that night, of all nights, was the night she should probably come back!

I should note here that one of the reasons I had not thought I was really in labour was because of how different my pain was - I felt absolutely nothing in my stomach and only had intense pain in my pelvis/hips/back. I should have known something was up then... but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

By the time my mum arrived, we had spoken with the on call caseload midwife (ours was of course off for the night as she was working the weekend!) and advised her what was going on and had planned to stay home as long as possible... however not long after Mum arrived we made the decision to head to the hospital because the pain had gotten so bad I felt I wouldn't be able to get in a car if we left it too much longer!

So, we did one last trek around the house, trying to think of anything we had missed that we would need, locked up and headed to hospital...

Part 2 coming soon!

39 weeks, 6 days according to our hospital due date. last shot before heading to hospital!

40 weeks...and introducing Miss Olivia Grace!

15.09.2013 - 22.09.2013

How far along? 40 weeks!

I feel I should make a disclosure here, since I am marking this post as 40 weeks! The dates I have been using at the top of our bump dates are based on a due date of the 22/09/2013, which is the date we were given at all of our scans. However, based on various elements, our hospital had given us a due date of 26/09/2013. So while Olivia's birth falls out of the dates I have given on the blog so far, she was born on her exact due date by hospital dates...so we'll go with 40 weeks ;)

Baby Size: 7 pounds, 1 ounce (3205 grams)

Total weight gain: 12 kgs

Bump measurement: 102 cm

Maternity clothes? I have been released from the world of maternity clothes and have entered the world of loose pants and feeding tops currently!

Stretch marks? 2 teeny tiny ones in an inconspicuous spot...and none on my belly! Yay! I am waiting to see if I get any as my bump deflates though :(

Sleep: It's so nice to sleep without any pain or heartburn! Now I just wake to my gorgeous little bubba girl instead :)

Best moment this week: I think this one is pretty self explanatory this week! Seeing my little Olivia's face for the first time...parred with the tears on her Daddy's face as he held her

Miss Anything? No. My world is amazing and all wrapped up in my little family

Movement: Miss Olivia was a little wriggler right up til the end...and wriggled her way into the wrong position! But more on that in her birth story...

Food cravings: Indulged in some yummy strawberries right til the end...and after she returned home I craved choc chip cookies hehe

Anything making you queasy or sick: Was getting heartburn right up til the end - including through contractions!

Gender: A BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL :)

Symptoms: Are now allllllll gone thankfully.

Belly Button in or out? It stayed in! Looked like a sad face towards the end, all stretched out, but didn't pop out

Wedding rings on or off? Managed to wear them the whole time, but I have a lovely indent when I take them off these days and they were very tight the day we went into labour!

Mood: Over the moon!

Looking forward to: Watching our little Livie-Bug grow and learn and love...

38 weeks!

08.09.2013 - 14.09.2013

How far along? 38 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby has reached their final fruit/veggie comparison of a watermelon…how cliché! Hehe

Total weight gain: Well, unless I suddenly balloon over the next 2 weeks, we’re sitting at around 12 kgs

Bump measurement: Still 101cm! I really expected my stomach to grow a lot at the end but nope, we’re staying around the same…

Maternity clothes? Yeppers! But the end is in sight! I know I will be living in breastfeeding singlets and stretchy skirts for a while, but it will be nice to switch up my wardrobe a bit in a few weeks

Stretch marks? So far, so good! Bought a new cream this week, instead of my normal Palmer’s Oil – Gaia (the brand I plan to use on Baby) Belly Butter…smells like a spa, love it!

Sleep: Crap. Only word for it. Very, very broken sleep, and after my hips behaving themselves for the most part since seeing the physio, they are back to being almost unbearably sore resulting in me tossing and turning all night. However, there’s nothing we can do about it because it appears to be as a result of all the weight and the muscles relaxing, not any tight trigger points like previously. Physio couldn’t find anything to release at my last appointment :(

Best moment this week: Feeling you react to your newborn cousin on my belly when I was having snuggles with little Kimberly. Feeling the two of you kick each other is pretty awesome, but she doesn’t bother now – it’s only you getting jealous of my snuggles hehe

Miss Anything? Sleep. And clothes that fit – not because I’m massive, but because all my maternity clothes are winter clothes and suddenly we are seeing very warm, Summer-like, Spring weather! (yes, please ignore the outfit in the photo – I didn’t realise just how big it made me look and how unflattering/awkward it was! But I was so hot I needed some kind of shorter skirt on…I need to go shopping. lol)

Movement: After well over a month of being in the same position, you spun Mama out the other day but completely flipping to the other side. It felt so strange feeling feet popping out to the other side! But it was only for 2 days and now you are back to your favourite position – back/bum slightly to the right and feet and knees continually stretching out to the left :) Not a lot of room for much more movement than that!

Food cravings: Hmmm this week Mama has been indulging in how cheap strawberries are right now! We love us some strawberries, don’t we Little Bean?

Anything making you queasy or sick: Heartburn at night often makes me feel like I’m going to throw up…but nothing else has really bothered me any more than usual at the moment

Gender: A big ol’ surprise but getting so much closer to when we get to find out!

Symptoms: Movement, heartburn, big belly haha, sore hips….Still don’t feel like we are really this far along though!

Belly Button in or out? Still in!

Wedding rings on or off? On! But getting tighter...

Mood: Content

Looking forward to: Meeting our Little Bean! But I will be sad to not be pregnant anymore…

36 weeks!

24.08.2013 - 31.08.2013
please ignore the terrible photo with the bad lighting! you can see how tired I was...we thought there was a good chance we wouldn't get to take anymore photos and we have been borrowing my dad's SLR for all bump pics, but we didn't have it with us. so, iPhone pic it was! at least we got one :)

How far along? 36 weeks!

Baby Size: Last week as a honeydew!

Total weight gain: Since 10.08.2013 I've only put on 3 grams...total is around 12 kgs - much less than I thought I'd put on! I'm pretty impressed with that :)

Bump measurement: 101 cm

Maternity clothes? Most definitely! Still getting away with regular stuff as well though. Anything I buy now I try to make sure is breastfeeding friendly (ie. button up! Lol)

Stretch marks? Not yet...just waiting for them though

Sleep: Had a GREAT sleep last night (28.08.2013) but prior to that been really restless at night. 27.08.2013 was a really unsettled night.

Best moment this week: Well, I wouldn't call it the best bit shall we say the most interesting? On 24.08.2013 we had a little hospital trip after a very uncomfortable afternoon that resulted in period type cramps and lower back ache. Expecting to be told it was just Baxton Hicks, we were actually told they were real, my cervix was 2cm long (roughly 50% effaced) and super soft. I was advised to give up work and rest as Baby could come anytime. Since then, things have been happening on and off, mostly at night.
While we'd prefer to for Baby to stay in a little longer, at least til 37 weeks, it is rather exciting that we could be meeting them very soon!
Actually, the best moment would have been while we were being monitored - watching our Little Bean's heart rate skyrocket every time their Daddy leaned in and spoke to them :) Best thing ever. They definitely know their Daddy's voice!

Miss Anything? A good night's sleep!

Movement: Baby was 2/5 engaged on Tuesday at our midwife appointment and since they engaged (bump dropped the prior Thursday so we assume they engaged sometime around there) they haven't been moving around so much - now I just tend to get kicks out one side (to the left) and their butt sticking out! I do feel occasional hand movements up towards their face/head - cute!

Food cravings: These seem to have died off, is that normal towards the end? I did crave a Milky Bar and Light and Tangy chips the other day :)

Anything making you queasy or sick: Same as before, but I have started to feel nauseous over the last couple of days?

Gender: Big surprise! But we should be finding out soon!

Symptoms: Where to start?! Braxton Hicks, heart burn, movement, pressure and pre-labour pains! Oh and headache...

Belly Button in or out? Still in!

Wedding rings on or off? On! But getting tighter...

Mood: Shocked? But excited.

Looking forward to: Possibly meeting our baby!! We are also on weekly midwife visits now so that is fun :)

34 weeks!

11.08.2013 - 17.08.2013

How far along? 34 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is now the size of a honeydew!

Total weight gain: Haven’t really put anything on since last fortnight, however I have a feeling that’s drastically going to change in the next few weeks!

Bump measurement: Still at 102 cm (40 inches)! I’m surprised by this as (particularly today!) Baby is really pushing out and I feel bigger. Fundal height is more though, measuring at 35!

Maternity clothes? Yep – a mix of maternity and non-maternity but I still love my over-the-bump maternity jeans and tights. Weather has started warming up, despite still being winter, so I’ve been able to break out some maxi dresses! (as seen in this weeks picture!)

Stretch marks? Nope! But still oiling up every morning and night – skin is so soft on the belly :) My physio commented on how well my skin has held up so far the other day…*shucks* I’m expecting them all to pop out a week before Baby arrives haha

Sleep: So-so! Sometimes amazing, but the last 2 nights my hips have been really hurting again…think it’s Baby getting bigger!

Best moment this week: Finally having furniture in Baby’s Nursery! I was so excited when it arrived and seeing (and helping…slightly…) it get put together. Also, I had my 34 week anti-D shot and a midwife appointment and we couldn’t help but laugh – our midwife was feeling around, curling her hands around Baby to try and work out what way they were laying and as SOON as she stopped, they stretched their legs out (I swear it was as far as they possibly could in there!) in protest. My whole side was sticking out crazily! It hurt but it was so funny…unfortunately they kept up the crazy protest movement for the rest of the day while I did 10 hours at work – ouch!
Special mention to our Calm Birth Course, which we completed at 33 weeks…but it got a post all of it’s own :)

Miss Anything? Nice, gentle movements. Baby is getting rough!

Movement: As mentioned above, Little Bean is clearly running out of room and getting stronger because OUCH, some of their movements are rough and they hurt! Particularly when they hit an internal organ… Felt them once or twice just under my ribs but thankfully it’s only when I’m in a certain position and it’s very rare.

Food cravings: Not really having any anymore! Is this common towards the end?

Anything making you queasy or sick: This has remained the same though – still don’t like BBQs or stir fries and hate the smell of cigarettes…

Gender: Less than 6 weeks to go til we know! (AND my sister has her gender scan the day after our due date, so we may be finding out our babies genders at the same time!)

Symptoms: Getting tired a lot more easily…heart burn is still around, so is my hip pain (although is still a million times better then it was before I saw the physio!). Loads of movement, rougher and sharper, and I’ve started getting “shocks” when baby’s head bounces in and out of my pelvis. Gee, that one is fun! Also, in the last 2 days I’ve started to notice a lot more pressure in my pelvis and my Braxton Hicks are starting to get stronger and feel more like actual contraction type movement, instead of just my tummy tightening and relaxing a while later. Sometimes they seem to have a peak now. Baby is not engaged, however their head is *right there* and with all these sensations I’m hoping it won’t be long until they are engaged! (hubs finds this hilarious and keeps reminding Little Bean this is the only time they are allowed to be engaged until they are 30)

Belly Button in or out? In – SUPER stretched though. Uncomfortably so! I don’t know whether it will actually poke out, or just keep on stretching sideways…hubs thinks it looks like a sad face!

Wedding rings on or off? On – with indents haha

Mood: Feeling “nesty”. I’ve always been a “nester” as such, always doing things around the house and making To-Do lists, but even I am surprised that I could actually get worse. I’ve gotten a LOT done since the nursery furniture arrived though and I’m starting to feel content…less anxious about the long “To-Do”s.

Looking forward to: The decorating in Little Bean’s room coming together…and finishing work at the end of 36 weeks! Yay!

32 weeks!

28.07.2013 - 03.08.2013

How far along? 32 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is still the size of a winter squash

Total weight gain: About a kilo more than last update (fortnight ago)

Bump measurement: 102 cm (40 inches)

Maternity clothes? Yep – a mix of maternity and non-maternity but I still love my over-the-bump maternity jeans and tights.

Stretch marks? Nope! But still oiling up every morning and night – skin is so soft on the belly :)

Sleep: Slightly better. Still getting up around 4am to use the bathroom. Foam underlay helped a little and the physio has done wonders, but I undid some of the good work at our Baby Shower on the weekend – been sore pretty much since.

Best moment this week: Our Baby Shower!! Post coming soon, promise. Oh my, it went so fast but it was a fantastic day and we felt so loved! Also loved getting our maternity photos in the mail :) (also another post on its way!)

Miss Anything? Being able to move at my regular pace…I am slooooowing down!

Movement: Crazy, crazy movement! Including waking up one morning with what looked like a tent pitched on the left side of my stomach – it was so strange! (Baby obviously didn’t like the way I was lying on my right side and moved completely into the left side, presumably with their bum in the air!)

Food cravings: They all seemed to have died down for a bit…although I did really feel like some watermelon and strawberries the other night!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Same as before. Nothing new to report. Still not a fan of BBQs, stir-fries with meats or cigarette smoke

Gender: Not long til we find out!

Symptoms: Heartburn is back, smaller meals are a must! Nose bleeds followed by headaches are a new thing this week (but my blood pressure is fine, thankfully!) A lot of visible movement and some occasional pressure in my pelvis – like Baby is head butting me! Also started getting a sore lower back if I stand/walk for too long

Belly Button in or out? In – just stretched!

Wedding rings on or off? On – with indents haha

Mood: Feeling a little more relaxed. I now know what we need to buy Baby and have started getting our hospital bags packed and picking up items we need, being organised makes me feel better.

Looking forward to: Starting our Calm Birth Course! And Baby’s furniture arriving (PLEASE be this week!)

30 weeks!

14.07.2013 - 20.07.2013

How far along? 30 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of a winter squash

Total weight gain: Pretty much the same as last Bump-date! No extra gain so far.

Maternity clothes? Yep – a mix of maternity and non-maternity but I still love my over-the-bump maternity jeans and tights. Recently purchased 2 pretty ASOS Maternity dresses – 1 that was going to be used for our maternity photos but wasn’t, and 1 for our Baby Shower!

Stretch marks? Nope! But using lots of cream and moisturising oil because I get very itchy!

Sleep: Slightly better. Still getting up around 4am to use the bathroom. I’m back in our bed (thanks to some issues with the blow up mattress and a cold, damp winter :( ...) with a foam underlay under our sheets. I’ll let you know if it helps!

Best moment this week: Visiting the physio for the first time. Oh how I’ve been waiting…and it was so helpful! She has shown me where the release points are in my hips for the pain I’ve been experiencing, and gave me a bunch of stretches to help. Another appointment on Monday!
HOWEVER! As wonderful as that was pain-wise…the BEST moment this week has to be our Maternity Shoot, by far! It was SO lovely to catch up with the gorgeous Sandra again, and I just know our photos are going to be amazing. Our Maternity Shoot was one of the milestones I’ve had in my head this whole pregnancy, and I can’t believe it’s done and dusted!

Miss Anything? Being able to get things done in a timeframe I’m used it. I’m so used to moving fast and getting a million things done in my hour lunch break and my, I’m getting very slow these days. It frustrates me!

Movement: We’ve been going Alien Style over the last week, much more visible movement from the outside

Food cravings: Less cravings at the moment! They all seemed to have died down for a bit…

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not particularly. I still can’t stomach the idea of a stir fry or BBQ but being winter they are less prominent meals anyway…

Gender: Still a surprise!

Symptoms: Still got an itchy belly, lots of movement and sore hips when sleeping…occasional heart burn (thankfully it’s dropped back down!). A lot of visible movement and some occasional pressure in my pelvis – like Baby is head butting me (but downwards)!

Belly Button in or out? In – just stretched!

Wedding rings on or off? On – with indents haha

Mood: Been a little emotional this week (poor hubs) and really getting over going to work…but Happy!

Looking forward to: Seeing the photos from our shoot…and our Baby Shower which is NEXT WEEKEND! Eep!

This week I’ve decided to add a new category until the end of the Bump-dates! My cousin asked me whether I had been measuring the Bump. I loved the idea of getting to see how big I get and how much it changes weekly so from now on, I plan to measure around my stomach, in line with my belly button (for consistency). In future updates, this category will be up near Weight Gain!

Bump measurement: 99 cm (just under 39 inches)

Also, from here on our Bump Stickers (purchased here) are fortnightly, instead of monthly as they have been. Ahh! That makes everything seem so much closer!

virtual nursery: our purchases/wants so far!

So far we have been very limited in what we have been "allowed" to purchase for Little Bean. Although we are almost 9 weeks out, we have been very strict in our purchases and aside from a BUCKET LOAD of hand-me-down clothes (in perfect nick, some with tags still on!) and our major items, Baby's room is pretty empty...

I was placed on a shopping ban. Yes, me, Mrs I-Need-Everything-Organised-ASAP, was told I was not allowed to buy anything for Little Bean until after our baby shower...

Needless to say, it's been killing me.

Currently, we have Baby's bassinet, pram and capsule, nappy bag, glider and a small side table. With the exception of about 4 little outfits early on in our pregnancy and a few decorations (like paper pom poms - more on that later!), that is all we have purchased and currently have at home. We have also paid for Baby's cot and change table, however they are on back order and due to be delivered in about 2 weeks (AFTER the baby shower - it's killing me people!!!) We also plan to purchase a little wardrobe in the coming weeks.

Everything else in baby's room has been given to us. We were given a second capsule, barely used, which will be in the Hub's car so we don't have to keep switching. We have been given an Angel Care baby monitor (again, barely used!) and 2 different musical seats for baby. And then there are the clothes. Oh my, the clothes!!! Going off tiny baby sized clothes, the girls are winning...but once we get to the bigger sizes, it's about an even boy/girl ratio! I don't think we are going to need to buy this baby any clothes for quite some time, whatever their gender. I'm hoping to get a lot of teeny neutrals at the baby shower and then Baby's wardrobe is set :) We are so blessed to be surrounded by so many giving friends and family members...who want us to have special pieces from their own children's wardrobes, pieces that are full of memories and they don't want to just throw away. It means a lot to us. (those of you have been following the blog for a while will be familiar with the story of our Best Man's triplets. If baby is a girl, she will be wearing a lot of pieces that were meant for little baby April. While some people may find that strange, we know just how much it would mean to our Best Man and his wife, to see our little angel using things that were bought with love for a little person who never grew into them. And it's our way of keeping her spirit alive.)

But! Back to the Nursery. Since our furniture is delayed, it has meant that other than the glider, I have not been able to set up Little Bean's room at all. All the clothes are currently sitting around in the little stripey fabric boxes that I plan to use for storage. Baby's pram and capsules are still in their boxes, waiting for our cars to be detailed so we can have them installed. We're hoping to set up Baby's bassinet in our bedroom this weekend, but I've been reluctant to do so since although it's the only item I CAN set up, I don't want it gathering dust before their precious little head goes in there. So instead, I thought I would share with you some of our concepts for the room, a little at a time.

We are currently renting, so painting isn't an option right now (maybe when we have been here a little longer our landlord will let us!). Therefore, we are trying to make the most impact with the bedding and accessories we bring to Little Bean's room. We are going with a grey, white and yellow colour scheme, with clouds and hot air balloons as our "theme" (limited pieces of this will be included in the room since neither of us want to go too over the top with a theme!). If Baby is a little girl, we are likely to add lavender or turquoise to the mix, with birdies. If Baby is a boy, possibly navy or turquoise, and airplanes!

Today's board is the basics for Baby's room. The bare minimums. Soon, I'll create a board with the decor we plan to add, a Baby Shower items post and hopefully at the end of all that, a reveal of their actual room! Since creating this board, I think we have found the wardrobe we want to get, but for now, here are the essentials we have gathered for Little Bean's first room!

1. Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier in White - This is a piece we haven't purchased yet (see above ban). It doesn't appear available in Australia currently but my oh my, when I saw it I feel in love with it's simple, sleek look. Much nicer (and decor friendly) then any of the ones I've seen available here currently! I plan to order it from Amazon after the shower. But boy, with the flu I had over the last week, I really wish we had already had it!

2. Cloud b Sound Machine Soother - I love how snuggly this little sheep looks! Many friends have raved about womb/heartbeat/white noises to help baby settle, and I love that this one is so cute and attaches to the side of Baby's bed. A friend has offered to buy this for our shower and I cannot wait to see it!

3. Mothers Choice Mesh Coco Bassinet in White - Our Little Bean's first bed! This will be in our room all too soon, ready for Baby to sleep in and close enough for night time feeds. One of my best friends and bridesmaid had this bassinet for her little one when she was tiny, but in the teak colour, and the first time I saw it I fell in love with it and knew I had to hunt one down for my babies when the time came! I love that it's nice and study, and wooden, and should last us through all our babies, however many that may be!

4. Childcare Wooden Glider in White/Mushroom - This chair...oh my, this chair! My husband thought I was nuts for wanting a "breast-feeding chair" when we have a perfectly good couch. But everyone else who has sat in that chair can completely understand why I bought it! It is heaven in seat form. And I am sure that when the day comes that nothing will settle Baby but sitting in that glider on their Daddy's chest and rocking, he will love it as much as I do!

5. & 6.Canterbury Sleigh Cot 3-1 with drawer & Canterbury Baby Change Table - We purchased these items brand new from an Australian eBay store, in a package (however, they can be bought individually) after seeing the awesome change table my cousin bought (same one, but in the darker wood). I'm reluctant to buy furniture from eBay stores, however knowing that my cousin had purchased from them without any problems and the fact I couldn't find a similar style of change table in any local baby stores pushed me to use these guys. We're still waiting on delivery since the white was out of stock, but if anyone is interested in our experience with the store, just ask! I'll be sure to let you know after we receive our items. I'm really looking forward to these, the cot also comes with a free teething cover, and I love that our change table converts easily to a regular set of drawers (great for those toddler years!) without any damage to the top of the item from the change mat. I do love me some furniture that works double duty! And our stripey boxes will look GREAT in those empty slots!

7. Gray and White Dots and Stripes Crib Bedding - This is another piece we are going to have to order from America! It is almost impossible to get any gender neutral bedding in Australia that isn't brown, cream or jungle animals. You would think yellow would be an easy neutral to find, since in my head yellow is much more neutral then green! but nope, everything seems to be pink, blue, green or creams/browns. So, we turned online again. Unfortunately, this store doesn't ship to Australia, so we are going to be hunting someone down to receive our items and forward them onto us. Luckily, Baby's Ouma (hub's Mum!) has recently moved to the good ol' US, so we plan to ship the item to her and pay for her to re-post it on to us. We (read I) cannot wait to have this bedding (along with some yellow sheets and a yellow change mat cover!) to set up, but since we have had no cot, we've put this order on the "wait til after the shower" list, in case anyone wanted to pitch in for it (we have some family who love to know they have helped buy bigger things). I do have some grey and white striped sheets ready to go in case the bedding is delayed for any reason!

So! That's the basis of Little Bean's Nursery. The next level, decor, is even more fun then shopping for the basics - I have SO many things that I have found to buy for the Nursery that I'm going to have to do a cull of my etsy favourites before I order...otherwise it would be full of so many fun things that there would be no room for Little Bean! I'll be sure to share some of the must-haves that I'm dying to buy in the next week or so, with links for any Mamas or Mamas-to-be out there looking for decor themselves!

Until then, I'd love to hear your feedback on Little Bean's room and your own experiences with setting out a Nursery - what worked, what didn't, what advice can you give? This little Mama thanks you in advance!

28 weeks!

30.06.2013 - 06.07.2013

How far along? 28 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of a winter squash

Total weight gain: About 9 kilos at this stage. Eep. Hehe. I’m hoping to stay under a certain figure…it might happen!

Maternity clothes? Yep – a mix of maternity and non-maternity but I still love my over-the-bump maternity jeans and tights. Baby doesn’t like anything that sits on my hips…can’t say I’d like anything pushing in around my head or neck either!

Stretch marks? Nope! But using lots of cream and moisturising oil because I get very itchy! Maybe I’m just paranoid but I think I know where one is going to pop up…

Sleep: Has gotten slightly better than my last post but still rather sucky thanks to my hips. Oh, and the night I woke up to find my air mattress flat…that was a joy! But I got a new (bigger!) one and we’re back on track. Ever since I got my second Anti-D shot and blood tests, my left arm has been cramping up quite bad at night though – the opposite side to the worst hip so…now neither side is comfortable!

Best moment this week: Hearing Little Bean’s heartbeat again, 2 times! Once at my glucose test and again at my Anti-D shot. Washing little people clothes and seeing them around our house (we’ve been given SO many second hand yet almost brand new clothes…so far the girl side is winning!) The BEST moment has to have been watching Hubs and Baby in their own little Morse Code language though haha

Miss Anything? SLEEP!

Movement: Loads and loads! It’s the best when I’m lying behind hubby in bed and Baby kicks out at his back!

Food cravings: Still get random cravings for Milky Bars! Lemon and sugar crepes are still a big one, and the occasional jam donut. The other day I was driving to my parents’ and I had the STRONGEST (and weirdest) craving for some Grape Hubba Bubba…sadly, that one wasn’t fulfilled lol

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…and I haven’t been able to stomach stir fries (which we all normally love!) or BBQs for a while now

Gender: Still a surprise!

Symptoms: Still got an itchy belly, lots of movement and sore hips when sleeping…occasional heart burn (thankfully it’s dropped back down!)

Belly Button in or out? In - just stretched!

Wedding rings on or off? On - with indents haha

Mood: Excited!

Looking forward to: Our maternity shoot with the lovely Sandra Henri! Cannot WAIT to see the photos and she hasn’t even taken them yet :)

26 weeks!

16.06.2013 - 22.06.2013

this week's photo was taken after a LONG day walking around Winter Magic Festival and just before our fridge filled our house with gas...resulting in a very stressful weekend and start to week 27!

How far along? 26 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of papaya

Total weight gain: Roughly a kilo a month

Maternity clothes? Yessum! Mostly because while I still fit into my winter tops in every other way, they are now too short and maternity tops are the only ones I can find long enough to cover the bump! So I use them as a base and I’ve been layering with non-maternity items…it’s been fun and all my skinny belts are finally getting a work out!

Stretch marks? Nope! But using lots of cream and Bio Oil because I get very itchy!

Sleep: Bad. Very, very bad! My hips have gotten worse and I went at least 2 nights with absolutely no sleep. An emotional pregnant lady this does make! My midwife has made a referral to the hospital physio for me and we blew up the air mattress for me to sleep on, which has definitely helped. It’s probably messing my body up in other ways but hey, at the moment as long as I’m getting sleep I don’t care!

Best moment this week: Going to Little Bean’s cousin’s baby shower and the hub’s 10 year reunion, where he enjoyed showing off The Bump! Hehe. Also getting a whole bunch of baby things from my cousin, who just had her last (a little girl, after two boys).

Miss Anything? SLEEP!

Movement: Loads and loads! They are kicking away as I type! Baby loves when Mama is all warm and snuggled in bed or under a blanket on the couch and goes crazy…

Food cravings: Still get random cravings for Milky Bars! Lemon and sugar crepes are still a big one, and the occasional jam donut

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…and I haven’t been able to stomach stir fries (which we all normally love!) or BBQs for a while now

Gender: Still a surprise!

Symptoms: Holy heartburn Batman!!! Heart burn suddenly went inside this week and I caved and got some Rennie’s. Still got an itchy belly, lots of movement and sore hips when sleeping

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Mood: Content

Looking forward to: Our baby shower, which is slowly creeping up on us – I saw the invites!! (I know nothing else…)

going back to...24 weeks!

02.06.2013 - 08.06.2013

How far along? 24 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of an eggplant still

Total weight gain: Roughly a kilo a month

Maternity clothes? Yep, yep!

Sleep: Interrupted :( My hips have been playing up while trying to sleep – I switch from one side to the other until they both hurt enough that I can’t sleep anymore…I was sleeping on our couch for a while, because it was softer on my hips! But I managed to come up with a way to sleep in bed – doubled up on pillows between the legs and put a bolster behind me, under the bottom sheet, so if my hips get too sore to take my weight I can lean back on the bolster and it *feels* like I’m on my back without actually being on my back!

Best moment this week: Our midwife appointment – always good to hear baby’s heartbeat (and this time the umbilical cord!) thumping away AND someone else finally got to feel Little Bean move! Aunty Alicia got three nice big kicks when she and Micheal were over for dinner…she felt very special!

Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night, my mint coloured jeans lol

Movement: Loads and loads! Baby loves when Mama is all warm and snuggled in bed or under a blanket on the couch and goes crazy…

Food cravings: Milky Bars!

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…and I haven’t been able to stomach stir fries (which we all normally love!) or BBQs for a while now

Gender: Still a surprise!

Symptoms: Itchy belly, lots of movement and some heartburn…and sore hips when sleeping!

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Mood: Content

Looking forward to: Getting the furniture we ordered earlier this week – the crib and change table!

Thursday, June 06, 2013

going back to...22 weeks!

19.05.2013 - 25.05.2013

How far along? 22 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of an eggplant

Total weight gain: Roughly a kilo for every month of pregnancy so far…I think. To be honest, I haven’t gotten on a scale in quite a while!

Maternity clothes? Yep. While I can still fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans, I was extremely uncomfortable driving to and from work and sitting at a desk for 10 hours a day in them, as the band would sit right where baby was and baby would spend all day kicking at the band! They HATED it. So, I invested in a pair of Big W maternity jeans – the kind with the over the belly band – and haven’t looked back! These ones are more like jeggings (they are thinner then regular jeans) and are skinny leg, SO COMFY. I also have a pair of coral ASOS ones which are just extendable waist, not over the belly, and they are pretty cool as well. The only jeans I can’t get into are my coloured jeans as they were a smaller make, so these coral ones make me happy. I miss my mint jeans though…

Stretch marks? Nope! But using lots of cream and Bio Oil because I get very itchy!

Sleep: Interrupted. Turning over is getting more difficult and I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse…

Best moment this week: Not a lot has happened this week! We have mostly been unpacking and getting settled…I started my 2nd course of prenatal yoga though and I am loving the classes – little alone time for just us and you always say hi during relaxation :) Mini Mother’s Day in Week 21 was awesome too – lots of people wished me a “pre” Mummy’s Day and Ouma gave us a present for you. One outfit from America, one from Australia

Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night, my mint coloured jeans lol

Movement: Still going strong! We are starting to see your kicks now and I often get a lopsided belly thanks to a head or butt sticking out the right side!

Food cravings: Not many. Still loving fruit, green apples in particular, and McNuggets (but I AM trying to limit those!)

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…and I haven’t been able to stomach stir fries (which we all normally love!) or BBQs for a while now

Gender: Surprise! Most of the old wives tales seem to say girl…Uncle Micheal’s aunt did the ring test over my belly which said boy – but she didn’t use my ring so I’d love to try it with mine

Symptoms: Lots of movement, a little heartburn now and then, an itchy belly.

Mood: Happy as a clam

Looking forward to: Hearing your heartbeat again on June 6th, and setting up your nursery now we have the space!

going back to...20 weeks!

05.05.2013 - 11.05.2013

How far along? 20 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of a mango (Daddy’s favourite!)

Total weight gain: Roughly a kilo for every month of pregnancy so far…I think

Maternity clothes? Still loving my maternity tights but that’s about it at the moment. I have a little stock pile of basics though!

Stretch marks? Nope! But using lots of cream and Bio Oil because I get very itchy!

Sleep: Interrupted. Turning over is getting more difficult and I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse.

Best moment this week: Hearing your heartbeat thumping away from the comfort of our own couch. You rolled over so that it got very loud! I love that we get to have our midwife appointments at home. Also, our scan at 19 weeks was amazing – you behaved so well excited for one or two pics that took a couple of minutes to get. Nanny and Aunty Dee loved seeing you and both reckoned you flashed us all at one point! But I didn’t see it so I don’t believe them… ;)

Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night, at the moment.

Movement: Crazy movement! This child doesn’t stop. The flips and somersaults are the ones that get me…it does feel slightly “Alien” like!

Food cravings: Ice cream the other night. Daddy and Uncle Chris made sure to pick me some up :)

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…

Gender: Surprise! We’re both still strongly thinking girl

Symptoms: Loads of movement, a little heartburn now and then (but it’s preventable), itchy belly.

going back to...18 weeks!

21.04.2013 - 27.04.2013

How far along? 18 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of a dragon fruit

Total weight gain: Roughly a kilo for every month of pregnancy so far…I think

Maternity clothes? Still loving my maternity tights but that’s about it at the moment

Stretch marks? So far, so good!

Sleep: Well, since our move I’ve been waking much earlier! Our new bedroom gets the direct morning light so I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier…less getting up during the night, sometimes I can go all night without needing too, sometimes I get up at 5 and then go back to bed for a few hours

Best moment this week: Daddy getting to feel you move at 17 weeks! And since then it’s just been getting stronger and stronger…Annnnd MOVING HOUSE! You officially have a nursery. But this is also the reason for the very tired looking bump pic! That was our 2nd day in our place, Mama had been unpacking all day!

Miss Anything? Eggs benedict. Lol. But for the most part I feel pretty normal so not really missing much!

Movement: Getting stronger and stronger by the day! I love that we got to feel our little munchkin so early!

Food cravings: Don’t think I’ve really had any this fortnight!

Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…

Gender: Surprise! We’re both still strongly thinking girl

Symptoms: A little heartburn if I have too much water before bed, itchy skin and a belly…and lots and lots of movement :)

Mood: Excited

Looking forward to: Our ultrasound appointment on the 1st of May – it’s a nice long one so we’ll get to stare at you for longer :) And our midwife appointment which has been moved to the 7th

going back to...16 weeks!

07.04.2013 - 13.04.2013

How far along? 16 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of an avocado (yum!)

Total weight gain: A few kilos at this point.

Maternity clothes? Not yet, although I have officially started a collection. Definitely finding maternity tights more comfortable than normal tights, and loving my skirts with my “fold down” waist (not maternity but certainly could pass as such!)

Stretch marks? Nope!

Sleep: Still getting up between 4 and 5:30am to use the bathroom, occasionally at 7 if I don’t. The hubs switched sides of the bed with me and I’m finding it much more comfortable (and getting a better night’s sleep!)

Best moment this week: FEELING YOU MOVE! Okay, this was technically in week 15 but has continued and is slowly getting stronger. I can’t believe I can feel Little Bean so early but hey, with all the jumping around they do when we see them on the ultrasound, I can’t say I’m too surprised!

Miss Anything? Some of my Summer clothes but since we’re moving into Winter I’m getting over that.

Movement: Yes, yes, YES! On the 1st of April I felt something…wasn’t too sure and was feeling a little silly in case I was wrong (it was so early!). But the next day it happened 3 more times in the exact same spot – definitely Little Bean!

Food cravings: Lemon and Sugar crepes! Nom, nom, nom. I think Auntie Juzzie is having sympathy cravings for them!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Chocolate still. The smell of cigarettes makes me want to hurl…

Gender: Surprise! We’re both still strongly thinking girl

Symptoms: Some cramping, lots of bathroom breaks, tired (although a little better recently), a little heartburn if I have too much water before bed, itchy skin and a belly! Yay!

Wedding rings on or off? On

Mood: Excited

Looking forward to: Your Daddy getting to feel your kicks! And our next ultrasound/midwife appointment on the 1st of May. Oh and starting prenatal yoga classes on the 14/04/2013!
